APPOINTMENT TO DEPUTY CHAIR OF STANDING COMMITTEE ON ECONOMICS
Yesterday I was pleased to accept an appointment to the position of Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Economics.
The House of Representatives Economics Committee performs an important role as it considers substantial economic issues. The Committee plays an important role in ensuring Australia maintains a strong and prosperous economy.
The Committee is currently conducting an inquiry into the rate of productivity growth in the Australian economy. The Committee will also conduct its regular bi-annual hearing with the Reserve Bank Governor next Friday the 19th of February. These hearings provide an opportunity to hear first hand the direction of monetary policy and factors influencing the decisions of the Reserve Bank.
As a believer in consistent and responsible economic policy, I am very pleased to be given this opportunity to take a senior role on this important committee.
