Don’t forget sustainability in the population debate
Australia’s population will be a major issue at the coming federal election. Not just because of the ongoing problems with Labor’s border protection laws but because Australians are increasingly concerned with the sustainability of our country.
Last year in a rare moment of clarity the Prime Minister made very clear that he ‘believed’ in a ‘big Australia’. He made these comments on the day that his government announced its population tar... »

Productivity report highlights Rudd’s failure
The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics report into Australia’s productivity growth rate highlights the ongoing failure of the Rudd Government, with the massive spending spree it embarked on since coming to office have little productive benefit for the Australian economy.
In particular Recommendation 6 of the bipartisan report highlights the failure of the Government to stand by a commitment to have an ‘evidence’... »

PENSIONERS SOLAR PANEL DOUBLE CROSS
Pensioners who have invested in solar panels have been double crossed by the Rudd Government.
The Rudd Government has been inducing pensioners with the attraction of significant rebates for installing solar panels. However now they learn that pensioners who sell the excess electricity back to their power company will have their credit or rebate classified as income and have their pensions subsequently docked.
This decision is driven by the desire ... »

GOOD NEWS FOR YANKALILLA ON DIGITAL TV
The decision by commercial broadcasters that a number of self-help retransmission sites in the Yankalilla district area will be upgraded to digital is good news for residents in the region.
Since being elected in 2008, I have been fighting hard to ensure Yankalilla residents would notbe left without television reception and that they would receive a digital signal before the Federal Government switches off Adelaide’s analogue service in 2013.

THREAT TO RECREATIONAL FISHING PROSPERITY
Since being elected in 2007 the Rudd Government has failed to support the Australian recreational fishing industry.
Through the scrapping of funding for the industry’s peak body Recfish Australia and with recent lack of industry consultation over the Mako Shark Ban and Coral Sea Exclusion, the Rudd Government is threatening industry prosperity.
Each year more than 236,000 South Australians and their families enjoy fishing recreationally, many... »

CREAN MUST ACT
Reports from New Zealand that the WTO is poised to rule that apples and pears from New Zealand can be imported to Australia are extremely worrying for Adelaide Hills apple and pear producers.
I have written to Trade Minister Simon Crean seeking urgent assurance that the Australian Government is doing all it can to prevent this ruling being handed down.
The dangers posed to Australia’s $500 million apple and pear industry from the devastating fire-blight disease are enormous.

Community Seniors Forum in Goolwa and Afternoon Tea in Hahndorf - 7 May 2010
Mayo residents are invited to attend a Community Seniors Forum on Friday 7 May 2010 with the Shadow Minister for Seniors, the Hon. Bronwyn Bishop MP.
Senior Australians have a wealth of knowledge and I wanted to provide local residents with the opportunity to participate in the political process by having their say on the policies that shape the future of our great nation.
It is my goal to ensure that... »
