Media Release - 37,000 petitions tabled calling for lawn bowls on ABC - Monday 28 November 2011

My federal colleagues and I recently tabled a petition with over 37,000 signatures calling on the ABC to continue broadcasting lawn bowls.

Lawn bowls is one of the largest participation sports in Australia with around 800,000 people taking part annually. The decision by the ABC to cease programming bowls after 30 years is a significant blow to the sport and the bowling community.

Bowling Clubs are an integral part of the Australian community, particularly in rural and regional areas. It is pleasing to see the extensive support this petition has received from communities across Mayo and the nation.

This was the first round of tabling with thousands more signatures expected to be tabled in the future. Petitions are available for signing at my electorate office in Mount Barker or by contacting your local bowling club.
