Phantom Water Purchase Is A Con
Once again the people of South Australia especially around the Lower Lakes have been ignored by the Rudd Government when it comes to addressing the water crisis.
Today’s announcement by the Rudd Government, packaged up as a history making deal, that $303 million will be spent buying back water from the Twynam Agricultural Group will not result in one extra drop of water flowing into the ailing River Murray in South Australia.
Eighteen months after the Rudd Government promised to end the blame game over the water crisis no substantial work has been done to improve on farm infrastructure that would save genuine water.
Water Minister Penny Wong cannot even say how much water from today’s announcement will actually be returned to the Murray Darling system claiming “that depends on the available rainfall.”
The people of the Lower Lakes need more than grandiose history making smokescreens, they deserve real action on water not more Rudd Government spin.
