New Tourism Grants Available

New Tourism Grants Available

The Federal Government has recently announced a tourism grants programme that many tourism businesses in Mayo may be able to access.

The TQUAL Grants program aims to support Australia’s tourism sector and will help to boost the industry during uncertain times and in an ever growing competitive market.

The tourism industry faces many challenges in this recession and it is crucial the Federal Government responds to these issues by supporting industry development and new projects and initiatives. In this respect I welcome this programme however I hope to see additional support for this industry in next week’s budget.

Tourism is critical to the electorate of Mayo with many people employed and running small businesses reliant on this industry.

The program is merit-based and offers grants of up to $500,000, exclusive of GST.

Three categories are available and include grants for innovative tourism projects, national or sectoral tourism initiatives and integrated tourism development projects.

Applications close 11 June 2009 and further details about criteria and applicant eligibility can be found by visiting the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism’s website at www.ret.gov.au/tourism or by contacting Ausindustry on 13 28 46.
