I am pleased to advise that a number of organisations in the electorate of Mayo have been given funding under the Saluting Their Service program.
Saluting Their Service is designed to preserve our wartime heritage and involve people throughout the nation in a wide range of activities and projects.
The Goolwa RSL Sub Branch has been granted $4,000 to undertake work on the Goolwa War Memorial. The money will be used to upgrade the safety and access to the memorial and add plaques to commemorate veterans post World War Two.
It’s important that we continue to recognise the sacrifices made by those who fought for this country and we must keep all our memorials in the condition that befits those who gave their lives.
The Lenswood Primary School and Woodside Army Barracks have also been granted $4000 each under this program.
Lenswood Primary School will use the money to erect a War Memorial in the school grounds dedicated to veterans who served in World War 1. I think it is important younger generations continue to recognise the sacrifices made by those who fought for this country in the Great War.
The Woodside Army barracks has a proud history of air defence and they will use the money to build a War Memorial. The memorial will be dedicated to all anti-aircraft gunners who served in World War 11 and subsequent conflicts. I continue to be committed to the retention of the Woodside Army barracks.
I congratulate the Goolwa RSL, Lenswood Primary School and Woodside Army Barracks on this funding and look forward to visiting the sites to see the completed works.
