Once again the residents of the Adelaide Hills have been ignored by Labor.
Yesterday’s announcement of the final Development Plan Amendment (DPA) for Mount Barker and Nairne totally ignored community wishes.
The final DPA is scant on detail and differs little to the draft amendment which received an overwhelming chorus of disapproval from the community.
Just like the treatment of the Adelaide Hills when the Inverbrackie Detention Facility was announced, the community has again been completely ignored by a Labor Government.
Minister Pat Conlon has tried to bandaid community concerns by announcing a raft of infrastructure projects, however these come unfunded and with no timeline for implementation.
It is all well and good for Minister Conlon to rattle-off a number of important infrastructure projects; it is another to commit to a timetable and guarantee funding for each of them.
Mount Barker is one of the fastest growing regions in South Australia. Unfortunately, infrastructure spending has not kept pace with this growth, causing significant community concern and frustration.
That is why I announced during the recent federal election that a Coalition Government would commit $22 million towards the cost of a second freeway interchange.
While I acknowledge that the State Government has finally realised the infrastructure needs of Mount Barker, I remain sceptical on Labor’s plans without a commitment to funding and a commitment to a timetable.
