Essay Competition: The Spirit of the Anzac
This Anzac Day I am inviting high school students from years 8 to 10 that either live or attend a school in the Mayo Electorate, to submit an essay for judging on the Spirit of the Anzac.
The legacy created by our Anzacs lie at the core of our great nation and I believe it is important that young Australians understand their story to ensure that it is passed on to future generations. This essay competition is an opportunity for students to express their ideas and opinions on the subject in a creative and imaginative way.
The essay can be up to 500 words and the competition commences on Sunday 1 March 2009 and closes on Friday 3 April 2009. Through the generosity of Angus and Robertson Book Store at Mount Barker, we have some fantastic prizes to be won.
The essay may be in a fictional, narrative or historical format and the content may be quite broad as long as it is within the context of the topic. Students may wish to research an ancestor who fought for Australia in a war or alternatively students may wish to argue what is means to embody the ‘Anzac Spirit’.
If you are interested in submitting an essay, please download the essay cover sheet below and send me your essay to PO BOX 1601 Mount Barker SA 5251. I will be judging the competition along with the Editor of the Mount Barker Courier and the President of the Mount Barker RSL.
I wish all students the very best with the competition and I look forward to reading and judging a range of essays soon.
If you have any queries or would like any further information, please contact my Electorate Adviser, Rebekha Selby-Fullgrabe on 8398 5566.
