GOOD NEWS FOR YANKALILLA ON DIGITAL TV

The decision by commercial broadcasters that a number of self-help retransmission sites in the Yankalilla district area will be upgraded to digital is good news for residents in the region.

Since being elected in 2008, I have been fighting hard to ensure Yankalilla residents would notbe left without television reception and that they would receive a digital signal before the Federal Government switches off Adelaide’s analogue service in 2013.

Yankalilla residents have a history of being left behind due to its population size and topography and I have been determined to ensure residents receive the digital service and the great benefits it offers.

In conjunction with community, I recently tabled a petition in the Federal Parliament calling on the Rudd Government to consider urgent funding for an upgrade of the television base stations currently servicing the region.

I am extremely pleased therefore that FreeTV Australia has provided a list to the Government informing them that commercial broadcasters will up-grade the Yankalilla self-help transmission sites to digital.

Although the final decision will be a matter of negotiation between the current licensee and broadcasters, this is a positive step in the right direction and a sign the uncertainty for Yankalilla residents is finally coming to an end.

While this is good news, the fight is not finished yet. I will continue to fight to ensure that Yankalilla residents receive digital television.
